Brunch at Johnny Pistolas

Two eggs Benedict sliders topped with barbacoa and poached eggs on a tray

Being introduced to new restaurants is something I love. Whether it’s a friend recommending one to me or the restaurant itself, it’s cool to find out about places you’ve never heard of or visited.

Johnny Pistolas, a taqueria and tequila bar located in Washington, D.C., recently invited me to check out the Bottomless Bruncharia menu. This Mexican venue bar sits amongst restaurants and shops in the Adams Morgan neighborhood.

The Bottomless Bruncharia is a weekend brunch that starts at 10:30 AM and ends at 4:30 PM. It costs $48/person and includes bottomless mimosas. The other drinks on the menu are Sangria, Tecate, and Bloody Mary, and these cost $0.25 each when participating in the Bottomless Bruncharia.

Note: this meal was comped. I was not asked to write a blog post or create content in exchange for the food. All thoughts are my own.

I went on a Saturday, and street parking was hard to find. Thankfully, there was a parking garage pretty close to the restaurant. I went around noon, and it didn’t get busy until about 1 PM.

WHAT I ORDERED

The Bottomless Bruncharia menu includes starters, egg dishes, tacos, desserts, sides, brunch drinks, and other dishes.

Bottomless Mimosas

Who doesn’t love bottomless mimosas? I love it when restaurants have more options available than the traditional mimosa. The flavors available are orange, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, and hibiscus. The bartender brought us a pitcher of champagne and a tray of juices to make our own mimosas at the table. I didn’t know before visiting that this was the setup, but I loved it. My mom and I enjoyed making our own combinations that we wouldn’t have otherwise been able to make if we weren’t mixing our own drinks. I really wanted to try hibiscus, but it wasn’t available when I visited. I’d absolutely choose the bottomless mimosa option again.

Barbacoa Eggs Benedict

I had only had Eggs Benedict once and didn’t love it, but seeing the Barbacoa Eggs Benedict made me want to give it another chance. This dish has barbacoa topped with a poached egg, citrus hollandaise, and cilantro on a buttermilk biscuit.

Whoever came up with this…I wish I could personally thank you. The Barbacoa Eggs Benedict was delectable. The flavors truly danced on my palate. The barbacoa was tender. The citrus hollandaise was something I didn’t know I needed. It worked so well with the other elements of this dish. The buttermilk biscuit was beautifully buttery. I give this a 10/10 and would order it again.

Chicken & Waffles

Chicken & Waffles is a brunch staple. My mom chose to try this dish. It’s made with a Southern breaded chicken on house-made waffles with syrup on the side. She said that she loved this dish and would order it again.

Chorizo Hash

The Chorizo Hash was a dish that was sent to my order and not chosen by me. I was excited to try it out. It’s made with chorizo, Yukon gold potato, scrambled egg, and chihuahua cheese on a tortilla.

I enjoyed this Chorizo Hash. It was flavorful overall. I think the ingredients worked so well together. This is something I’d order again.

WRAP-UP

I’m not much of a savory-leaning breakfast person. I typically have both savory and sweet, but it was fun doing something different. I had not heard of Johnny Pistolas before they reached out to me to try their Bruncharia option. I’m glad they did because it was one of the best brunches I’ve experienced. I can’t wait to go back. The next time you’re in D.C., or the Adams Morgan neighborhood, check out Johnny Pistolas!
