There’s something about finding a doughnut shop to try with a great mix of classic and specialty doughnuts. I came across Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe while looking for more doughnut shops to check out in the D.C. Metro Area. This shop is a veteran-owned and family-owned shop in the Ballston Area of Arlington, VA. It’s a small shop with a neighborhood cafe vibe, and I loved it.
WHAT I ORDERED
I typically look at the menu ahead of time, but Good Company Doughnuts doesn’t necessarily have the same selection every day. It’s easier to go without checking out the menu because they’re doughnuts. However, the flavors that they list on their site sound amazing. Their classic doughnuts include Bavarian, Honey Dip, and Red Raspberry. Their specialty doughnuts include Maple Bacon, Nutella & Toffee, Strawberry Rhubarb, and Lemon Pucker (seasonal). All of their doughnuts are baked fresh daily.
Good Company also has breakfast bowls, sandwiches, soups, and salads. I was only there for the doughnuts this time around.
Snickerdoodle Glazed
If you love classic doughnuts, the Snickerdoodle Glazed doughnut is the one for you. It was soft and super fresh, which is what doughnuts should always be like. It tasted just like the classic cookie. I’m not sure what the small discs on top are called, but I think they added a nice touch.
Peppermint Hot Chocolate
I was the most excited to try the Peppermint Hot Chocolate doughnut. I had been in a hot chocolate phase, so ordering this flavor made sense to me. This doughnut was topped with a vanilla buttercream icing, peppermint pieces, mini marshmallows, and a chocolate drizzle. It was filled with a chocolate cream that worked so well with the doughnut toppings. Everything just works.
Mocha Espresso
If you like coffee, the Mocha Espresso doughnut is the doughnut for you. It’s a chocolate-frosted yeast doughnut filled with a whipped espresso buttercream (made with Good Company’s Black Cat Espresso). It’s also topped with a dollop of the espresso buttercream. This is one of the best doughnuts I’ve ever had. Chocolate and espresso is such a beautiful combination. I didn’t replace my daily cup of coffee with this doughnut, but I sure wish I had a cup with it.
CONCLUSION
Good Company Doughnuts is a must-try. The staff member who helped me was thorough when I asked more about the flavors available, which is always a plus! There are so many other flavors that I want to try. I can’t wait to come back to try more. The next time you’re in Arlington, check out Good Company Doughnuts!
