Sunset Raw Juice Bar

While working on the Black-owned juice bar guide, I looked for new (to me) Black-owned shops to round it out. That’s when I found Sunset Raw Juice Bar, a Black- and family-owned shop based in Maryland with two locations: Fulton and Owings Mills. It’s owned by the Sheppard family and was started by siblings Shanae and Gerrard Sheppard (former Raven). Read more about their story here.

WHAT I ORDERED

Sunset Raw Juice Bar offers cold-pressed juice, smoothie bowls, smoothies (including protein smoothies), protein balls, juice cleanses, and power shots. I went with a plan to purchase a smoothie bowl and a couple of juices.

Juices

Sunset Raw Juice Bar uses whole fruits and vegetables for their juices. They use the cold-press process to keep as many nutrients in the juice as possible. They currently have 10 regular flavors plus two seasonal ones.

Strength

I was the most excited about trying the Strength cold-pressed juice. It’s made with beet, orange, and ginger. I tried beets in juice form months ago and loved it, so I figured I’d love this one, too.

I loved this juice so much! The fresh ingredients complement each other well without one overpowering the others. The ginger was a great touch.

Iron Booster

The Iron Booster juice is made with spinach, pineapple, cucumber, lemon, and ginger. I’m not a cucumber person, but I was still open and excited to try this one. This juice was recommended by the staff, so I trusted their judgment.

Surprisingly, I liked this. The cucumber (thankfully) didn’t take over the drink, which is typically my experience with it. I loved that the ginger added a nice kick to this drink and paired well with the citrus ingredients. I’d absolutely get this again.

Açaí Colada Bowl

I love açaí bowls, so I was excited to try their Açaí Colada Bowl. This smoothie bowl is made with açaí, blueberries, bananas, and almond milk. It’s topped with granola, fresh strawberries, bananas, blueberries, and coconut shreds.

This smoothie bowl was refreshing. I could taste that the ingredients were fresh. The coconut and granola add a beautiful texture to the bowl. Strawberries, bananas, and blueberries are also a top-tier combination. I’d order this again in a heartbeat.

CONCLUSION

I loved Sunset Raw Juice Bar so much. The staff was so helpful when I asked for recommendations, and they really made it a wonderful experience. I can’t wait to go back and try their other menu items. The next time you’re in Columbia or Owings Mills, Maryland, check it out!
