Mia’s Italian Kitchen: a Taste of Italy for Brunch

Old Town Alexandria has some solid options. In the past few years, I’ve frequented this area a lot. The more time I spend exploring it, the more cool or interesting things I find in the area. I recently met up with one of my best friends for brunch at Mia’s Italian Kitchen near the waterfront. It’s one of the places I’ve seen quite a few times, so I’m glad I finally checked it out.

Mia’s Italian Kitchen’s menu has traditional Italian recipes from the owner Dave Nicholas’ Sicilian grandmother. It also has signature Sicilian-style rectangular pizzas that they make in a brick oven. They offer lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. (Yes, there’s also a bottomless weekend brunch option.)

Mia’s is nestled amongst the restaurants and shops near the waterfront on King Street. When I saw how busy it was that Saturday afternoon, I was happy that I made a reservation on OpenTable. When I had a second to take it all in, I noticed that the atmosphere was busy but friendly and homey. It’s an elegant, comfortable space, which I thought made it a perfect place for brunch.

WHAT I ORDERED

The hardest thing for me to decide on was the cocktail. I considered indulging in the bottomless weekend brunch option but decided to try that next time. FYI, the bottomless brunch option lets you select as many of the menu items as you’d like for $29 per person. (All guests at the table must choose this option.)

In terms of food, I think Mia’s Italian Kitchen has a well-rounded menu. They offer brunch specialties, brick oven pan pizza, house-made pasta, salads, and shareables.

Blood Orange Margarita

This was the first time I had seen a Blood Orange Margarita on a menu, so it was only right to get it. Margaritas are my fave. The Blood Orange Margarita was made with Camarena Reposado Tequila, Solerno Blood Orange liqueur, and fresh lemon & lime juices.

The Blood Orange margarita was one of the most refreshing drinks I’ve had. I loved strong the blood orange flavor was. The other citrus juices worked so well in this cocktail. I’d absolutely order this again.

Bucatini Cacio e Pepe

I’ve been wanting to try Cacio e Pepe for a while. When I saw this on the house-made pasta list, I had to order it. The Bucatini Cacio e Pepe is made with bucatini pasta, creamed pecorino romano, black pepper, and sea salt. You can request gluten-free vegan pasta.

I loved how fresh and flavorful the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe was. This pasta had more of a chewy consistency, which I enjoyed. I’ve never thought about having pasta at brunch, but I’m glad I did.

CONCLUSION

Mia’s Italian Kitchen was a great brunch option. The staff was helpful and gave great recommendations. I loved how fresh everything was. This is where you need to get brunch the next time you’re in Alexandria.
