Del Ray Boccato

I love visiting places when it’s not planned. My mom and I were on a mission to try a few spot during Alexandria Restaurant Week. When we made it to the Del Ray neighborhood, I stumbled upon Del Ray Boccato.

Del Ray Boccato is a gelato shop that opened in 2020. Cristian Velasco, the owner of the shop, has a degree from Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa and worked as a chef in the D.C. area. He developed an interest in gelato after a trip to Italy.

Note: There are a couple of stairs. I’m not sure if this shop has a way to make it wheelchair-accessible. I will try calling again to get more information and will update this post.

WHAT I ORDERED

Organic ingredients are used to make the gelato at Del Ray Boccato. Sorbet is also on the menu. The flavors include Blood Orange, Cannoli, and seasonal flavors. Pastries, coffee, and empanadas are also available. The cost range for 1-3 scoops is $3.75 – $6.

Pumpkin Pie Gelato

I love trying pumpkin desserts. When I saw that Del Ray Boccato had a Pumpkin Pie flavor, I had to have it. This was the first pumpkin dessert I had seen this year, and I was ready to try it out.

On looks alone, I could tell that this gelato was very pumpkin-y. I loved how vibrant this gelato was. The first spoonful tasted just like fall. The pumpkin flavor was perfect. The spices complemented it well. This was some of the freshest gelato I’d ever had. It tasted just like pumpkin pie. I’ve had pumpkin pie gelato and ice cream before, but this one takes the cake. If you’re a pumpkin person, you need to try this flavor at Del Ray Boccato.

CONCLUSION

Del Ray Boccato’s available flavors were intriguing, and I can’t wait to visit again and try more. From start to finish, the experience was seamless. The employee who helped me was kind. Overall, I highly recommend Del Ray Boccato if you enjoy gelato. Check it out the next time you’re in the Del Ray neighborhood!
