Let’s Pause: Adjourn Teahouse

There was a lot of attention on supporting the Black-owned businesses in June 2020. I haven’t seen everyone keep that same energy, so I want to say continue to support Black-owned businesses. This is something that can’t just be a trend or a moment. It’s important to do so when you can, whether that means buying a product or sharing a post of some that you love.

On my search to find more Black-owned businesses to support, I found Adjourn Teahouse. This business sells hand-blended loose leaf teas and reminds us to pause when there’s a lot going on. I think that’s important to do, especially now. It never hurts to give yourself a moment and come back to whatever that thing is.

WHAT I ORDERED

Afro Blue

Afro Blue is a caffeinated, anti-inflammatory chai tea. Other benefits include antioxidants, calming, and strengthening the immune system. After steeping, it reveals a beautiful blue, which is created by the blue butterfly pea flowers. If you add lemon juice, it changes to a purple due to the acidity. This blend is made with organic white peony tea, blue pea flowers, lemongrass, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and white peppercorn.

Availability is currently affected by the shortage of cardamom and shipping delays on blue butterfly pea flowers.

Jubilee

Jubilee is a black tea that I scored this past summer. It was made in honor of Juneteenth, which is a holiday created to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States in 1865…two and a half years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation. This blend contains Assam black tea, blackberry leaf, calendula, hibiscus, and mint. The benefits are Vitamin C, antioxidants, strengthening immune system, and calming the nervous system. The notes are described as tart, rich, and bright. It’s exactly that.

This was the best black tea I’ve ever had. It tasted amazing with and without sugar and is perfect iced. I love this tea so much, that I try to space out the days I make it. You can also steep it multiple times. Jubilee seems to sell out pretty fast, so you have to keep an eye out for it.

CONCLUSION

Adjourn Teahouse is one of my favorite Black-owned businesses. The tea blends are great quality, and you can taste the love and passion put into it. It’s also one of my favorite accounts to follow on Instagram. The brand from social to packaging to the online shopping experience is one where you can truly feel the sense of community and love of tea. I can’t wait to try other blends.

If you love tea or know someone who does, Adjourn Tea House is a brand I’m sure you’ll love.
