You know what goes well with warmer weather? Ice cream. I’m personally someone who will get ice cream while I’m out no matter what the temperature is. There are some solid options in the area, like Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, which I finally tried a little over a year ago. (I know, I know. I’m trying to do better with content hoarding.)
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams was founded by Jeni Britton. The ice cream is made from scratch using her recipe that was perfected over 20+ years. The flavors are inspired by art, history, pop culture, and more. If you’re looking for unique flavors, Jeni’s is an ice cream shop you need to check out. Their flavors are some of the most unique ones I’ve ever seen. If you’re not near a shop, check out their website to see if it’s sold in a store near you. I’ve seen it at MOM’s Organic Market, Target, and Giant.
WHAT I ORDERED
It’s hard to choose just one flavor at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, so I ordered two. Their cool flavors include the classic Brambleberry Crisp, Goat Cheese with Red Cherries, and Frosé Sorbet. You have the choice of ordering a single scoop (1 full scoop); standard (2 half scoops); or a trio (3 half scoops). You can choose a buttercrisp waffle cone or a bowl. There’s also an interesting flight option, which is $21 for 10 half scoops. The long line gave me enough time to narrow down what I wanted: Wedding Cake (limited flavor) and Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam.
The Wedding Cake flavor is made with vanilla cake, lemon, blackberries, and buttercream icing. Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam ice cream is made with buttermilk ice cream, crumbled biscuits, and swirls of peach jam.

I would absolutely order both of these flavors again. The sweet-tart flavor of the lemon and blueberries with the vanilla cake was a great combination, and the textures together were beautiful. Wedding Cake paired well with the Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam ice cream that I ordered. I’ve never thought about biscuits being in ice cream, but it works.
Other Flavors I’ve Tried
Gooey Butter Cake
I found Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams’ Gooey Butter Cake flavor at MOM’s Organic Market. This flavor is made with cream cheese ice cream that has layers of vanilla cake crumbles and a swirl of caramel-butterscotch sauce. I hadn’t had cream cheese ice cream until I tried this flavor. I loved how sweet the caramel-butterscotch sauce was and thought that the cream cheese ice cream helped balance it. The vanilla cake crumbles were a nice touch, and I think the texture was perfect.
CONCLUSION
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is one of the most popular ice cream shops in the area, and it makes so much sense. The flavors were enough to pull me in. This ice cream is arguably some of the best you’ll find in the area. The next time you’re in Alexandria, check out Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams! They also have other VA locations and some locations in Maryland and D.C. Check out their website to find your closest location.

Update 03/10/2023: Mixed up flavors, so I corrected the “Brambleberry Crisp” flavor to “Wedding Cake.”
Until next time.
