Branch & Bird: a Taste of Fort Worth

A cocktail sitting on a table with buildings in the background

Work trips don’t have to only be about work. I had a very short one this summer (less than 48 hours, to be exact). I flew to Dallas, TX to photograph my first conference in Fort Worth and only had enough time to check out one restaurant: Branch & Bird.

Branch & Bird is a restaurant in Downtown Fort Worth, TX that offers contemporary cuisine. It’s a rooftop restaurant at Frost Tower Fort Worth. The menu includes seasonal and regionally sourced ingredients produced by local farms and ranches.

The short walk from my hotel didn’t prepare me for the beautiful views of the city. I took the elevator straight to the Sky Lobby level, where Branch & Bird is located. Thankfully, I didn’t have to make a reservation. They gave me the option to dine inside or on the outdoor patio. The weather was so beautiful that I couldn’t resist dining on the patio.

WHAT I ORDERED

Birds & the Bees Cocktail

Branch & Bird had so many cool cocktails that it was hard to choose. I spent so much time trying to narrow it down but eventually decided to order the Birds & the Bees cocktail. This cocktail is made with Effen vodka, mint-infused honey, grapefruit, and Prosecco. It may have been a seasonal cocktail since it’s not currently on the menu.

The mint element of this cocktail was what I was the most excited to try. I had never thought about pairing mint and grapefruit.

The Birds & the Bees cocktail is easily one of the best I’ve had to date. The grapefruit and mint combo helped make this a refreshing drink. The honey added the perfect touch of sweetness. It was so good that I wish I had ordered another one!

Seafood Mac & Cheese

When I saw Seafood Mac and Cheese on the menu, I had to try it. It’s a velvety four-cheese pasta with lobster, crabmeat, and shrimp mixed throughout. I’ve had crab Mac and cheese but have never had mac with multiple seafood proteins. I was stoked to try it.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of seafood in this mac. I mentally prepare myself for not having much protein in seafood dishes. There was plenty of each, which helped me feel like I got the full experience of the dish. The seafood was flavorful and was the star of the dish. As promised, the cheese was velvety, and it worked so well with the lobster, crabmeat, and shrimp. I’d absolutely go back to Branch & Bird just to have the Seafood Mac and Cheese again.

Limoncello Cheesecake

I don’t order desserts often when I try new restaurants, which is why I told myself to just order the cheesecake. Why not?

Branch & Bird’s dessert menu has “seasonal cheesecake” listed and doesn’t specify what it is. When I was there, it was the Limoncello Cheesecake. Limoncello is one of my favorite liquors, so I was really excited to try it in cheesecake form.

This Limoncello Cheesecake is one of the best desserts I’ve had in a while. It’s light, smooth, flavorful, and beautiful. I loved the presentation of this dessert. The limoncello flavor really stood out, and the drizzle was the perfect touch. I also enjoyed the graham cracker crust. The flavors of this cheesecake danced beautifully on my palate. I’d order this again in a heartbeat.

CONCLUSION

I enjoyed getting a taste of the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) food scene. Although I wish I had more time to explore, it was fun checking out Branch & Bird. If you’re ever in the DFW Area, I highly recommend checking out this restaurant.
